Melody Newcombe’s rich, colorful, creative life included an unlimited number of engaging areas of her talents and focus from singing, teaching music to young children, face painting and clowning, organic vegetable and flower gardening, running a bed & breakfast on her property in Mt. Tremper, and being a member of the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) Nichiren Buddhism community.

Taking leadership of the existing Shandaken Women’s Network, which had merged Catskill Women’s Network, Melody renamed and rebranded the group as Ulster County Women’s Network to reflect the region and breadth of topics and interests. She brought wellness and health, along with gardening, into the many topics UCWN covers that enrich our lives. Her legacy continues.

Melody’s daughters, Isadora and Heather, endorsed UCWN’s organizing a tribute of their mother by all her many friends. Everyone who knew and touched her life is welcome to participate in this joyous, musical, memory-sharing circle with food, drink and the spirit of fun that Melody brought to every occasion. So, wear a clown red nose, a flower, have your face painted, bring photos, writings, and anything you would wish to include in a book we are putting together for Melody’s daughters.

Pets welcome; Melody loved animals and all life. Please bring finger food (pot luck), wine/beer/soft drinks, and be prepared to celebrate the ways that Melody added her special zest in friendship to your life. Donations to UCWN to cover the expense of the gathering are appreciated, as are gratuities for the Chicken Night All-Stars band. Melody believed in appreciating her musician friends!

Spread the word and let your friends know about this gathering for Melody. Let me know if you can help out with set up/clean up, music, food, and anything else.
