Summer is here with the desire to safely gather and connect once again. Through UCWN, you can connect with old friends, and make new women friends, and at some events, new men friends. UCWN expands and changes with the shifting times and preferences of its members. Some members have moved away to be closer to grandchildren or to their long-awaited retirement oasis; some have moved to the Hudson Valley from lower NY and elsewhere to establish themselves in our beautiful area, seeking like-minded friendships and activities. And some, though still in the area, have become super busy with projects they began during the last couple of years of Covid re-assessments on priorities. UCWN is your organization to collaboratively create ways to meet our mutual needs and interests.
UCWN aims for greater diversity and inclusiveness. We hope that you will tell your friends and encourage them to tell their friends.
Connection is the new important theme in the post-Covid phase of more homebound activities. Refresh, revitalize, and renew your memberships and involvement by taking on roles to steer UCWN in a direction that benefits you and everyone else. Treasurer? Program Coordinator? Secretary? Ad hoc Advisory Committee member? Website admin? We welcome you.
Remember to register for the wonderful upcoming event on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Keegan Ales in Kingston, spotlighting five amazing women poets followed by an open mic to read your own poems.
UCWN is hosting a gathering for UCWN founder, Melody Newcombe (https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/melody-newcombe-obituary?id=34272250) for family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and everyone whose life was touched by her energy and enthusiasm. Please join us to celebrate the life of Melody; bring a pot luck dish, beverage (alcohol permitted), wear a red clown nose, have your face painted, twist a balloon, sing a song, bring a plant for the picnic table, write a note in the memory book for her daughters, speak about how knowing Melody impacted your life. She was and is a force of nature and she’ll be back as a maple tree to hug!
Contact President@UCWN.org or gloriawaslyn@gmail.com to volunteer in the planning, during the event, and afterwards for cleanup at Catskill Visitor Center from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.
Onward and Upward,
Gloria Waslyn
