Happy Lunar New Year of the Rabbit! In Asian culture, rabbits represent the moon with a rabbit’s pure characteristics. Rabbit kindness may be perceived as soft or weak, but their quiet personality doesn’t need to show their confidence and strength as they steadily move toward their goals. Let’s shine on with the attributes of rabbit in this new year!
February 2 is Groundhog’s Day and in Celtic tradition this is Imbolc, the midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. The sunlight is increasing with the warmth of early spring on the way. Shine on!
Ellen Messer’s book is still available at Rough Draft, Kingston; Oblong Books, Rhinebeck; Inquiring Minds, Saugerties and New Paltz; and Golden Notebook, Woodstock. The $20 donations by a book purchase of “Back Rooms: Voices from the Illegal Abortion Era” will go to UCWN as a pass through to our local chapter of League of Women Voters. Interesting: The HVLWV is planning a book club discussion of Ellen’s book. UCWN will have a discussion to follow up on the wonderful event with Ellen and the importance of actions and changing the narrative for women’s rights to be upheld. The book conversation will be scheduled in the next several months.
Renew your membership if you haven’t done so already. You can join or renew online at www.UCWN.org or bring your $25 check to the lunch.
Invite friends to join so that we continue to grow and evolve to meet our dynamic interests in vital topics with fun gatherings. Consider getting involved in the Advisory Committee to help shape our direction and relevance to your visions. Friendship relationships and activity connections are formed by these lovely gatherings of supportive women over time by discovering common interests. UCWN provides a wonderful forum for meeting like minded women and those who provoke new thoughts and interests. Vitality and Fun!
Please Save the Date: March 7, 2023! Note this is the first Tuesday, not the usual second Tuesday! We are accommodating the speaker for this scheduling. We look forward to exploring ideas with Kathe Kraus on her March 7 travel tips for women. We may be exploring some local one-day adventure trips and a one-week trip abroad as a UCWN group! Anything is possible.
As we get into the groove of a “new normal,” we will have many hybrid meetings to accommodate gathering in person and by Zoom, so everyone is included. We will also be planning workshops and activities between monthly events that give full expression to our varied interests. One thing that is being planned outside of the formal UCWN membership is a weekly senior women’s dance being created by a UCWN friend, Maraleen Manos-Jones. She has arranged the back room for Thursdays early evenings at Boiceville Inn on Route 28 (Boiceville) next to BreadAlone. She called me to help find a good DJ so women can dance to jazz, R&B, and blues music. Sounds like fun. We’ll keep you posted!
