Classical guitarist and composer Bonnie Robiczek Meadow and mezzo-soprano Judith Kerman (UCWN member), both of Woodstock, will present a concert of songs from the Sephardic tradition at the Woodstock Jewish Congregation, 1682 Glasco Turnpike, Saugerties, NY, on Sunday, November 13 at 3:00 p.m. For tickets, including both in-person and on Zoom, please go to the synagogue website, wjcshul.org. The program will be repeated at the Kiva, behind the MaMA at 3588 Main Street, Stone Ridge, on Saturday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets available at the door.
This program includes a sampling of love songs, lullabyes, and songs from the Sephardic religious tradition, both popular and liturgical. Sung in Ladino, the language of Middle Eastern and South European Jews, they are notable for beautiful melodies, often with a Spanish or Middle-Eastern flavor, and poetic lyrics, including Biblical and romantic themes, that suggest the everyday life of the Sephardic community. All-new guitar arrangements for the program were composed by Bonnie Robiczek Meadow.
