Sing into Joy! What an expansive idea—not just for people who already sing and miss being able to join others in song, but also for those who’ve always yearned to try but felt shy, or may have been shamed into silence. Sing into Joy, an online music-and-healing resource created by singer, teacher, and healer Danielle Woerner, is based on the premise that singing regularly can enhance our health and wellness: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Though singing in groups will undoubtedly be one of the last communal activities to come back from our pandemic isolation, we can always sing on our own, and can safely and happily join others online.

In this special presentation for Ulster County Women’s Network, Danielle will describe and demonstrate simple techniques of breathing, alignment, tension release, sound production for a richer, fuller, clearer tone, and more. These elements can enhance our confidence and effectiveness in all of life’s activities and interactions, professional and personal. Participants will be invited to try the exercises—in the safe sonic space behind their Mute buttons—or just to listen and watch if they prefer. There will be a Q&A at the end.

About Danielle Woerner

Danielle Woerner is delighted to rejoin her fellow members of the Women’s Network for this event! Danielle’s career as a professional singer, recording artist, voice teacher, writer, and entrepreneuse began in NYC. When she moved to the Woodstock-Saugerties area in 1990, she quickly became an integral part of the music and arts community of the Hudson Valley. While based there, she created two critically acclaimed commercial solo CDs of American songs and chamber music featuring Hudson Valley composers; performed numerous times as guest soloist with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, Ars Choralis (including its tour of Germany), and at the Maverick Concert Hall; toured Spain as a soloist with the Canticum Novum Tour Choir; and gave many solo recitals. She founded the Artist-in-Residence program at historic Holy Cross Church in Kingston; was an Artist in Residence at SUNY Ulster and with the Hudson Valley Youth Chorale; wrote for the Woodstock Times and Hudson Valley Magazine; and ran her own teaching studio and workshops. Working with the arts in a healing capacity, she’s done extensive music, meditation/relaxation and insight work, originally as an Activity Therapist on the mental health and detox units at Benedictine Hospital, and as a presenter for National Artists for Mental Health and NAMI.

Danielle and her husband relocated to the Bold Coast of Maine in 2014 to found the Sunrise County Arts Institute, under whose rubric she has directed regional school drama activities and a youth chorale as well as continuing to perform and teach voice. With the onset this spring of COVID-19 quarantining and distancing, she has launched an online resource, “Sing into Joy.”
