The most pressing issue facing our local ecology
is the drastic decline of insect populations. Many people will say “Good riddance!” but in fact the decline in insects is the reason we aren’t seeing or hearing as many songbirds and therefore large, hunting birds. It also affects small mammal populations and therefore large mammal populations. Polly Law will talk about how we can all help reestablish the insect population in our landscapes.
Polly M. Law is a horticulturalist and manager of Catskill Native Nursery, a specialist nursery with the mission of promoting and restoring ecological landscapes. Besides her deep and abiding interest in native-plant gardening, Ms. Law is also an artist whose distinctive bricolage works are instantly recognizable.
