A Letter from Vice President Sheila Gould

To our Members and Friends:

I am so excited to announce to you all that our Ulster County Women’s Network will be collaborating with Caren Martineau (www.bevival.com) and the Ulster County Office of the Aging to present the workshop you see below!

We need a great turnout from our network! Please read more on details enclosed:

The background for these workshops came about from me meeting Caren at the Rosendale Theatre and learning of her work on aging and her passion for how do we talk and plan for what is ahead! Many of you expressed your own concerns to me on the subject.

Caren and I met and spent months planning our network’s last March (2023) presentation to you all with the film from Christine Herbes Sommers, “What Time Is Left.” Caren opened the dialogue on death literacy after the film. You all wanted to go further; know more and talk more about this timely, immense subject, so relevant to us now.

Workshops need space, speakers travel and get paid, the wheres and hows were hashed out.

I connected Caren through us to the Office of the Aging Director Sue Koppenhaver. Sue was totally on board, so we created this workshop and pooled the talents from both sources!

Thus we have a Death Literacy 101 workshop, on a very needed subject started by our network and now open to all and free of charge! Experts will be on hand at each session!

Download the workshop schedule agenda and schedule PDF here Death Literacy Agenda.

We hope our workshops will expand to more topics as desired, and that we will be a prototype to move these workshops to all.

State counties—stay tuned, more to come! There will be a lot of press on this event for sure!

You can RSVP to me, Sheila by phone (917) 797-9087. Up front! Then you must register on the Office for the Aging website when this program launches at the end of March and early April.

We really need our network ladies to show up in force! Gather the girls, lunch out, drinks after. More talking—more connecting! Let’s get all this done, have our questions answered, and have peace of mind! Then we are pretty set to party and enjoy most hopefully what does come next! 🙏🏻
