Happy New Year and welcome to 2023 with a UCWN set of events, get-togethers, and fun around topics of our interests, including Women Aging with Grace, Joy, and Wisdom! Sheila Gould, VP UCWN, presented this theme at our December gathering, and it was a hit. UCWN’s focus is to create relevant topics that our members suggest. Our theme this year is an emphasis on ourselves and enhancing our wellness and joy. UCWN will have Walks and Talks, Happy Hours and mid-month fun awaits alongside our Second Tuesday monthly events.
UCWN is delighted to start the year with a $200 check to Hudson Valley League of Women Voters that comes out of a generous donation of books by an event speaker, Ellen Messer, for suggested donations of $20 to inspire action to promote women’s rights to their reproductive choices. This represents the first of two checks once the books remaining for “sale”/suggested donation of $20 or what is offered, is completed at several bookstores. Please pick up a copy of “Back Rooms: Voices From the Abortion Era” at Rough Draft (Kingston), Inquiring Minds (Saugerties and New Paltz), Golden Notebook (Woodstock), and Oblong Books (Rhinebeck).
We look forward to a planned February event with lunch at Le Canard Enchaine Bistro in Kingston on February 14th as a Valentine’s Day treat for ourselves. We’ll order off the menu and each of us pick up our own lunch and bar check. Hold March 7th for a talk on travel tips and great deals being offered now that so many restrictions have been lifted. Our speaker is UCWN member and sponsor of UCWN, Kathe Kraus, a travel advisor, land and cruise planner, who negotiates rates and creates “Dream Journeys,” custom-designed vacations using their extensive personal and professional travel experience. TBA event on March 14th: Spring Is Coming! We are off to a robust 2023!
