First, let me thank long-time UCWN members, dynamic duo, Myrna Sameth and Susan Metzger, for hosting August’s Pool Party at Myrna’s historic West Saugerties farm house. The swim was refreshing, company outstanding, and the food plentiful and delicious (Szechuan Green Beans recipe here). Thank you for your generosity!

Second, due to my recent health challenges, I was unable to complete the event copy for the newsletter by the deadline. Sheila Gould, VP, Leslie Snow, website admin, and several others, happily stepped in to plan a Happy Hour event at the Dear Kingston Beer Garden. Unfortunately, the venue closed its doors unexpected this morning (even though Sheila spoke to them yesterday!). Thanks to all for the alerts! Instead we’re going to meet at Partition Bar in Saugerties. We all look forward to catching up with each other and enjoying the time to mingle. Thank you!

Third, the originally planned dinner and discussion is postponed to a future date after my recovery from scheduled surgery. The theme is vibrant aging with three lively seniors telling their stories. They are: poet and social activity goddess, Vivi Hlavsa; Rev. Deb Zuill, ordained minister at the Saugerties Katsbaan Reformed Church; and Imogene Simmons, podcaster and world traveler. Please join us for some captivating and inspiring conversation. Details coming soon.

Happy last days of summer and the beginning of fall splendor.

Onward and upward,

Gloria
