On October 10, 2017, UCWN members and their guests were enthralled by the music of Karan Whitman & Rick Pantell at the NYS Teacher’s Union building in Kingston, NY. In the attached video, Karen shared her love of Balkan Music with her rendition of Balkan Girls. Their highly original, warm and powerful songs their lyrically rich and surprising melodies. They have arrived at a sound uniquely their own that engages listeners song after song. Their repertoire included Karen’s warm, versatile vocals, with fiddle, are richly accompanied by Rick’s lush and generous fretted strings (guitar, banjo, tambura) for a perfect blend. Finishing the evening with the crowd singing along (and a few dancing!) to popular folk songs made for a very special musical experience for all in attendance.
