This month we see Barbara Kolodey’s term as dynamic duo coordinator for UCWN come to an end. She served for two years, acting also as website administrator; working in close collaboration with Naomi Schmidt during the design and transition to the new website. Thank you, Barbara.
Replacing Barbara as dynamic duo coordinator is Kristin Wenger. Please join me in welcoming her to UCWN. Kristin, along with Rachel Jackson, acted as the dynamic duo to coordinate the September event, the sold-out Elena Zang Gallery Visit.
In December 2017, Kristin and her husband Ken moved to Woodstock, where they live in the house that they designed and built. Currently, they are developing a new house project, which they plan to offer in the Spring. Kristin has a BA in Government from Skidmore College, a MS in Mass Communication from Boston University, and a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Mandel Center of Case Western Reserve University. Recognizing her 30-year contribution to the field of arts education, Kristin received the Outstanding Lifetime Contribution recognition at the 2018 Governor’s Awards in Arts Education ceremony. Kristin retired from her position as the Co-Director of Arts Ed New Jersey in December 2017. Prior to this position, Kristin was the Executive Director of Young Audiences of New Jersey from 1986 to 2005. From 2006 to 2008, she was an adjunct professor at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, where she taught Managing the Arts. She was a fellow of the Prudential Foundation Nonprofit Executive Program, a member of the Newark Arts Education Roundtable Leadership Council, Sustainable NJ and Creative NJ. In addition, she received the Tribute to Women in Industry Award presented by the YWCA and served as the board president of the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Affiliate.
Sydelle Freed’s term as president ends but she continues to serve as our treasurer. Please join me in thanking her. Replacing her is Leslie Snow, who has serve as an Advisory Committee member since July 2018.
Leslie returned to Ulster County in November 2016 with her husband, Sean Tarleton. Leslie holds a BA from Florida State University in Government and a BFA emphasis Graphic Design from University of North Florida. Leslie began Long Life Fitness in 2009, after more than 15 years as a graphic artist. She combines exercise science and yoga to help people age successfully through fitness and meditation. Leslie completed one year of post-graduate work in Exercise Physiology at University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2010 and 2011. In 2013, Leslie received her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, and in 2016 completed her 500-hour training in Charlotte. This year she achieved an “experienced” designation, or E-200, which is 1000+ hours of teaching, from Yoga Alliance. She trains people and teaches yoga in her home studio, at IXL Health & Fitness in Saugerties, and at Saugerties Yoga. Leslie has practiced martial arts, namely Isshinryu Karate and Aikido, for the last decade.
Rounding out the Advisory Committee are Gloria Waslyn, Historian, and Rachel Jackson, Community Partners Coordinator. Thanks to you for all you do.
Please add your voice and presence to help make UCWN the club you want it to be. We can only do it with your active participation. It is an opportunity to work with your friends and make new friends. We need people to serve as dynamic duos, to suggest and mount events, to offer suggestions, keep the website updated, post on social media, and help build membership. We can use your WordPress and social media skills and also your blogging skills. Practice your leadership and collaborative skills, working with like-minded, Ulster County women, to stage events that are educational and fun for all. Contact any Advisory Committee member at info@ucwn.org to discuss.
