Our dear, amazing friend Melody Newcombe passed after a long and brave battle with cancer. She passed gently in the night in Rhinebeck.

Melody’s joyous, optimistic, enthusiastic spirit permeated everything she did. And she did everything.

She was a prolific gardener, an entertainer who brought joy to endless children, a music lover/ singer, a lover of laughter, a devoted “Chicken Night” sponsor, and was for 15 years the head and creative force of Ulster County Women’s Network.

Melody was fortunate to have close family and friends to care for and comfort her during her illness. In fact, during her very final hours Claudia Hirsch and her mother, Maxine, visited Melody and gave her a milkshake and a foot rub … and she received loving care from her daughters, Heather and Isadora.

She leaves a legacy of endless warm, happy memories that will forever be a blessing to us all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Flat Rock Brook Nature Center https://www.flatrockbrook.org or Mohonk Preserve https://www.mohonkpreserve.org.

UCWN will host a Life Celebration for Melody, at her family’s request, by the end of June. We want to include people from the many circles that Melody loved: music, gardening, clowning, teaching. We need you to help plan this event. If you would like to be a part of this committee or if you can contribute in any way, please contact Gloria at president@ucwn.org.
