From UCWN member Susan Metzger
When I worked with UCWN on the Preference/Satisfaction Survey, two of the findings asked the organization to:
1) provide opportunities to meet more than once a month on an ad hoc basis
2) hold online interactions for the benefit of those who cannot physically attend a meeting and/or want to have more frequent interactions with others in this group.
The online Vitality Society™ community that I have joined would provide both of those benefits. Leslie Snow suggested that I share the following.
A few weeks ago, I joined the online club Vitality Society for people “60 and better” that offers 16 Zoom programs each week, and I’ve found something to do most days. For instance, Monday was hula hooping, which is as much fun as you remember it.
There are multiple dance classes (NIA and Latin), several strengthening classes (Yoga, Barre, and Pilates) and lots more, including Physical Therapy classes, all specifically designed for those over 60 (so the coaches never push as in “give me 20 more”). Classes are coded by their level of intensity and also whether they are for primarily cardio, mindfulness, rehab, or strengthening. There are also non-exercise classes each week, such as art, photography, and even improv comedy (which I’m taking).
The first week is free so you can see if you like what they are offering, and then it is $29.99 a month for unlimited classes. You can attend as few or many classes as you like and you pay month-to-month, so you can cancel at any time.
I’ve gotten a bit more fit from all of the moving around, and there is also something a little reassuring but also energizing about spending time — even remotely — with a group of people during the classes, before and after. It has also been nice to see my friend who suggested that I check it out, on a fairly regular basis.
Visit Vitality Society online to learn more and see the August calendar.
They also offer complimentary classes such as the monthly Solo Aging discussion group with expert Sara Zeff Geber, PhD which will be held this month on Sun, August 30 at 4 pm ET. You’ll need to RSVP here to participate (and you can register for free to do so.)
BTW, I’m not being paid to promote this, I just think that it is very worthwhile. See what you think.
